Never turn down an opportunity to speak. Just do it! Say Yes to public speaking.
We may often be tempted to say “no” to speaking opportunities because we fear making mistakes – appearing foolish. Mistakes are the stepping stones to excellence. Be willing to make them. Be willing to learn from them. Your success depends on it.
It wasn’t until I stopped being so concerned about my appearance that my growth as a speaker and presenter took quantum leaps. I was willing to say “yes” Sure, taking on speaking opportunities is taking on a risk. But I did, and do, practice what I preach. I am always willing to try new techniques to deliver my message. Some turn out downright embarrassing. Do I survive? Sure do! Do I learn? Absolutely! Do I improve? Lots! Would such have happened if I didn’t try and fail? If I didn’t say “yes” to speaking opportunities? NO!
Say “yes” to speaking! Say yes to your personal and professional success!

It’s important to look at your developing presentation and ask: “What am I hoping to accomplish here?” But it’s even possible to ask yourself: “What would I like to accomplish in my life, or work?” and by doing so create an opportunity to give a presentation that will move you closer to your goal. For example, obtaining a salary increase, finding the funding to start your own business, winning a valued contract, or applying for an advanced degree program are all goals you can reach by using a presentation you devise and give on your own.
