The Roast
There are people who should not be roasted.
While being the target of a roast is an honor and a compliment, there are some people that just don’t want to be honored with this. I’ve been at Toastmaster events where such people were subjected to roasts. It wasn’t a very comfortable experience for anyone; especially when the roastee got up to deliver his or her rebuttal.
OUCH!
It is really quite simple to recognize those who shouldn’t be roasted. I can narrow it to just three:
- Those who absolutely do not want a roasting and threaten that if you force one on them it could be detrimental to your social and/or financial health. Remember the roastee gets the last word in the form of a rebuttal.
- Those who do not have a sense of humor
- Those who are not very well liked or respected
In situations like this, it is best to just stick to a boast (praise) and skip the roast.
